In a Seattle suburb, a little boy dreamed of overcoming a life-threatening heart condition and being big and strong. He wanted to help keep his city safe from bad guys. Little did he know his chance was coming. He was the only person who could save the day.

The Masterminds

It started with a phone call: five-year-old Aiden, who was waiting for a life-saving transplant, wished to be a superhero.

Researchers studied the effects of granting wishes on children with cancer, and found significant improvements in hope, positive emotions, health-related quality of life and anxiety. You make our life-affirming mission possible and we are so grateful.

We take pride in our stewardship of our financial resources, leveraging generous philanthropic support with donated goods and volunteer services.

Fundraising

We are grateful for the dedicated and generous support from thousands of community members, businesses, corporations, foundations, clubs and associations. Contributions and investment income received by Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington during the 2016 fiscal year (September 1, 2015 to August 31, 2016) totaled $8,647,831. Included in this amount are in-kind contributions totaling $3,012,309. Net assets at the end of the year totaled $1,019,973. Of every dollar spent in the fiscal year 2016, 73 cents went directly to granting wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Legacy Gifts

In the 2016 fiscal year, many generous and forward-thinking donors left significant sums of money to our chapter through their wills totaling $131,896.
